Raise your hand if you forgot Karl Urban is FINALLY playing Johnny Cage, because we sure did! The “Judge Dredd” star posted an update from the set of “Mortal Kombat 2,” featuring several of his co-stars hanging out. News of Urban’s inclusion in the film came back in June of this year, from project producer Todd Garner.

The update from Urban today is that production is moving right along, with filming continuing. It’s interesting to note we don’t get to SEE him in the photo, which could possibly be to hide his hair/costume.

Mechad Brooks (“Supergirl“) plays Jax Briggs, Damon Herriman is Quan Chi, Ana Thu Nguyen is Queen Sindel, Desmond Chiam is King Jerrod, and Martyn Ford is Shao Kahn. Lewis Tan returns as Cole Young, with Ludi Lin as Liu Kang.

Simon McQuoid returns to direct. “Mortal Kombat 2” is expected to hit sometime in late 2024 or possibly 2025. You can catch the previous film on MAX. And obviously, you can see Karl Urban in Prime Video’s “The Boys.”

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
