Henry Cavill “Highlander” Will Include Stuff from the TV Shows!

It’s been a tick since we’ve heard anything about…well…anything. With the ongoing WGA, SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP, things have been markedly quiet round ol’ Tinseltown. There are in fact several projects that are in some level of development, but for the most part, big studio releases are dark. Which is why this update about Chad Stahelski‘s “Highlander” film has us pretty excited. That, and we kind of freaking love “Highlander.“

We know Henry Cavill will star in the flick, but what hasn’t been known for sure is what the plot will be. A straight remake of the Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery starring original film? Maybe something closer to the Adrian Paul tv series? Or even “Highlander: The Raven,” which starred Elizabeth Gracen. [Stop laughing! “The Raven” is a pretty cool product of it’s time!]

    The answer is- kind of?

“I think we have some very good elements now. The trick is when you have the tagline ‘there can only be one’, you can’t just kill everybody the first time,” Stahelski told the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast about the project. “I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that, but we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property.”

Soooo yes. The man behind “John Wick,” directing sword-fighting immortals in a quest to the sole remaining one, starring the guy who cocks his arms like shotguns?? As long as Stahelski brings in someone like say….Bear McCreary to do the score, this could be a film of EPIC proportions.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
