Germany’s Europa-Park Evacuated After Massive Fire Breaks Out

Germany’s largest theme park, Europa-Park, had some pretty hot problems over the weekend. A large fire broke out in the park’s Spanish section, World of Diamonds. Tiktok and other social media videos show huge black clouds and flame billowing up on the park’s horizon. This is the second fire Europa-Park has experienced since 2018.

Along with the Germany location, the resorts of France and the UK issued a statement to social media. “An incident has occurred at Europa-Park. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and emergency services. Firefighters continue to work in the affected area, adjacent areas have been cleared and visitors are being escorted out of the park.”

The park later updated the post stating the fire was under control, and that there was no report of injury. Given the size of the fire, it’s extremely fortunate no one was hurt. Back in 2018, a fire broke out in a building adjacent to the park. The result was severe damage to Europa-Park’s Scandinavia and Holland sections. It closed down an attraction, destroyed a roller coaster, a theater, and restaurant while injuring 7 fire fighters. Luckily, it sounds like this mess was well under control.

Dear visitors and fans, at around 4:40pm on Monday 19th June at Europa-Park a localised fire broke out at the attraction 'Yomi Magical World of Diamonds'. The fire was brought under control by the fire brigade. (1/5) pic.twitter.com/w8uSfvlT8U

Theme park fires can be pretty scary.

Europa-Park is home to a massive amount of attractions and rides. Thirteen roller coasters, six hotels, a camping site, and a tepee village. As well as a cinema and a conference center. And is second in most-visited attractions in Europe next to Disneyland Paris. A fire like this could cause some significant property damage. But luckily extensive enough that closing off one section of the park won’t badly affect the rest.

Park guests were evacuated safely, and the theme park has since reopened.
