“Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” Gets Full Trailer

Are you ready to return to the world of Panem? Susan Collins‘ landmark YA “The Hunger Games” series was a hit, both in book and film form. So, it shouldn’t be surprising a revisit to such a world would happen. Collins’ 4th book set in the dystopian world, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” was released in 2020.

A scant three years later, we’re getting a big studio adaptation.

    Lionsgate

Like it’s source material, this film will tell the story of young Coriolanus Snow (later President Snow, who matches wills with Katniss Everdeen). It’s early in the days of The Capitol. The big war which created the world as we know it in the original three novels happened less than 10 years ago. And we see the 8th Hunger Games, very different than we’re used to, being planned for and held.

    Lionsgate

Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story“) will play Lucy Grey Baird, alongside Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow. Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones“) will play Casca Highbottom, Dean of the Capitol’s Academy, where Snow is a student. The film also stars Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.

An official trailer was released last week, and we’re sorry to say we missed covering it. But, here it is now. We recommend reading “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” BEFORE the film hits. And a reread of “The Hunger Games” trilogy is never a bad idea.

“Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” hits theaters November 17th, 2023.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
