Sandy Cheeks Takes Center Stage in Netflix’s “SpongeBob” Movie

For every SpongeBob movie, we’ve seen the excitable yellow sea creature take on impossible odds. But now it’s time for SpongeBob to take a back seat. Netflix‘s upcoming movie will see everyone’s favorite Texan, karate-chopping squirrel in the spotlight. Sandy Cheeks is the hero of this film, aptly titled “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Story.” It’ll be fun to see Sandy take on the threats to Bikini Bottom this time around.

She deserves her time to shine!

Of course, the role isn’t complete without our favorite Carolyn Lawrence reprising her role. A role she has inhabited for twenty years. That’s what we call a voice veteran. Naturally, Tom Kenny will return as SpongeBob, and more than likely Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick. As well as several other familiar voices (*cough* Clancy Brown *cough*) We’re pretty happy to see Sandy get a movie for herself. As a secondary character to the series, she’s never had the chance to shine despite her adventurous nature. After all, she’s possessed of brain AND brawn. Perfect for a movie hero.

Some of you may be curious as to why this movie’s showing up on Netflix. Doesn’t Paramount own the rights to SpongeBob? You’d be correct. But Netflix and Nickelodeon actually had this deal in place long before the creation of Paramount+. This is also the first film in a set of three that will bring SpongeBob’s supporting cast to the forefront, as a way to infuse the long-standing series with new lore and life. Perhaps following Sandy, Patrick and Squidward may end up with films of their own as well. It might be fun to see them take on their own stories in the depths.

    It’s Sandy’s time to shine!
