The Tooth Fairy has reportedly been hit with an all-time high in payouts for lost teeth this year. It’s steadily been increasing little by little since she started. Axios first reported on the matter with a graph showing the increase had gone up four dollars since 2005. They used Delta Dental’s 2023 annual poll to calculate the new rate, which is over $6.
The average value of a lost tooth increased 16%, topping out at $6.23, which is quite a bit. Considering I remember getting a $2 bill which was pretty magical in itself.

In addition to the money, the survey also revealed some kids are getting presents, not just money. This could be anything from a gift card for Robux to a small toy. And if they’re really really lucky, maybe a trip to a theme park.
As a parent of a child who is currently losing teeth, I can confirm payout rates are going up. Maybe because most of the time the Tooth Fairy only has a $10 or a $20 on her person. In our area, the Tooth Fairy doesn’t typically carry $1s in her purse.
