It’s time to debunk the myth that one cannot learn anything from watching movies. Whether you opt for an award-winning documentary or a good old rom com, chances are, you’ll probably end up discovering something new about the world or yourself. Romantic comedies are usually labeled as predictable and are packed with cliches. The story follows the same pattern—boy meets girl, they fall in love, overcome all the obstacles and the movie ends with the boy getting down on one knee and surprising his better half. Nonetheless, we are all guilty of watching these rom coms from time to time, especially during the Christmas season. After all, can we even celebrate Christmas without Love Actually and a nice cup of hot cocoa?
But, there is some educational purpose to these movies. Girls can learn a lot about what they want in a guy or what kind of wedding celebration they’re into. Guys, on the other hand, can get a couple of ideas on how to treat a lady properly and when to pop the question. Plus, if they’re watching the movie with their partner, they can also see how their loved one reacts to different proposals and engagement rings. Like one with argyle pink diamonds. What’s a proposal without a flashy ring to seal the deal?
If you’re in need of some inspiration, stay tuned as we list the top 3 proposals seen on screen and the engagement rings that helped the main character get the woman of his dreams.
Bride Wars
In case you’ve missed this gem of a movie, cancel all your plans for the weekend, grab some popcorn and prepare to laugh your heart out. Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma(Anne Hathaway) are best friends who dream of getting married at the Plaza. Everything goes according to plan until they both end up having their wedding on the same day—June 6th. We won’t go into detail, so you’ll have to watch the movie to see whether the two manage to stay friends in the end.
One of the most memorable parts of the movie is the proposal scene where Emma’s boyfriend decided to ask the question in a very original and non-traditional way. Instead of popping the question in a fancy restaurant during dessert, her boyfriend hides the engagement ring in a fortune cookie(now that’s some good fortune).
The ring is a classic round diamond and leaves Emma lost for words. The ring is elegant, so if your loved one is the traditional type, then this is the ring to go for. It’s simple yet eye-catching and goes perfectly with all outfits and styles.
Sex and the City
Before we dive deep into the ring, we need to point out that we’ll be talking about the SATC movie, not the TV show. Mr. Big and Carrie have been the cause of many of our nervous breakdowns and they’ve been through hell until they finally end up together and start fresh. Anyone who watched the series remembers the moment when Carrie, although accepting Aidan’s proposal, refuses to wear the ring on her finger. Instead, she wears it around her neck as she’s too scared of committing.
However, Mr. Big knows how to shop for an engagement ring and waits until he’s found a ring as unique as his loved one before settling for an ordinary ring. Of course, he ends up getting down on one knee and presenting Carrie with a jaw-dropping black diamond ring. It’s definitely an original piece that you don’t see every day. If your better half doesn’t mind being in the limelight, a diamond ring with a colored gemstone is the best way to seal the deal.
Legally Blonde 2
One of the most memorable characters on screen, both in appearance and personality, is, hands down, Elle Woods. And anyone who knows Elle Woods, knows that her favorite color is pink. So, it comes as no surprise when Emmett chooses a pink diamond for her engagement ring. We simply cannot imagine a better ring for our most favorite blonde. She uses every opportunity to show off the ring proudly.
It fits her style perfectly but it’s also a very elegant and creative piece of jewelry. It goes to show that you don’t have to stick to neutral colors all the time and that a little risk can go a long way, especially if it means it will put a smile on your loved one’s face.
