11 Employable Skills That Players Learn Through Classic And Modern Games

Every young professional has experienced the challenges of trying to find ways to improve transferable and employable skills. You might have attended seminars, conferences and tutorials to help you boost your soft skills, but many may not have considered that one of their favourite activities can be just as good at improving skills.

Playing video games can benefit you in a massive variety of ways, many of which are excellent skills to utilise in the workplace. While you might not be able to put your gaming achievements onto your CV, that will not make them any less useful or tangible in the world of work. To get the most out of gaming, it is important to play a broad range of games available to exercise different skills.

    Financial Literacy

Many games can be great ways to learn more about financial literacy, particularly for younger players. This may include learning to manage money so that you can spend it in-game or managing the money of your character to ensure their survival. Many games, like RuneScape, require players to do tasks such as mining to help earn money to invest in vital equipment.

    Problem Solving

At the heart of every game we play, there is a problem to be solved. The problem could be a complex, long-term quest that requires a lot of work and effort, or it could be the completion of a single puzzle. No matter a puzzle’s complexity, games can help us look at the things we’re given with an analytical mind, assessing the tools and information we have to develop the best course of action to solve the problem.

    Patience

There are few games out there that let you win without any effort. After all, if it was easy to play and win, where is the challenge and point of playing? Playing a game time and again and experiencing the frustration of missing out or losing on a battle or level is crucial to help us grow as people. You may need to complete repetitive actions in order to see success, just as is the case in our daily work lives. Patience is critical to helping people thrive at work and the understanding that nothing worth doing can be accomplished immediately.

    Leadership

When playing in a group, it is often necessary for one player to take on a leadership role. This could be by agreement of the group or by necessity in the heat of the action. Learning to lead a party of gamers requires many of the same skills needed to lead a group at work. You will need to be able to delegate tasks, keep everyone focused on the goal and ensure that everyone understands what is required of them.

    Teamwork

In addition to leadership, many multiplayer games require the ability to work effectively as a team, another critical skill for the workplace. Gamers will know that tough levels or boss battles require many players to pull together to achieve the best, and the same is true in work. Gaming can help you understand the real importance of having a quality team to rely on and the issues that can be caused by a team member that doesn’t pull their weight.

    Maths And Statistics

Many professional roles require an understanding of maths and statistics. You’ll need to understand your chances of success and ways to improve those chances through actions taken. Casino games can be great options to help improve your understanding of maths and statistics and how they can impact the outcome desired. Take a look at the great casino options like roulette to test your skills, using quality and trustworthy sites like Play Live.

    Losing Gracefully

Setbacks are inevitable in life, whether in our personal, professional or gaming world. Learning how to deal with setbacks and overcome them is critical to a successful professional career. It is also vital for a successful gaming career, as few gamers are able to succeed in the first instance. Gaming allows players to learn from their mistakes and understand the feeling of things not going their way in a low-risk environment. The skills learned from these experiences can be invaluable in our professional lives.

    Communication

Communication is a critical skill for many adults, used in both our professional and personal lives. Many multiplayer games require collaboration between players, meaning that each will need to be able to communicate effectively for the party to succeed. Not only does gaming help us improve our communication skills, but it also helps us do so under pressure, which can be a very valuable skill in the real world.

    Socialising

Going hand in hand with communication, games are often how we learn to socialise with others from an early age. Small children often play games together to form bonds and get to know each other. Even into adulthood, games can help us hone our socialising skills, getting to know others whether online or in person and from a range of backgrounds.

    Hand-Eye Coordination

Gaming doesn’t just improve our mental skills – it can improve our physical abilities as well. Gaming requires excellent hand-eye control and coordination, particularly games like first-person shooters. Hand-eye coordination has a range of benefits for our professional lives, helping us to speak or present in public with confidence.

    Attention To Detail

Games often have stunning amounts of detail for a player to absorb, and anything in a game could be the crucial key to solving a level or task. Players need to be aware of their surroundings and able to spot any changes or clues quickly to give them the best chance at success. Attention to detail is critical in many professions as well, with even the smallest mistakes having massive repercussions in industries from construction to accounting to architecture.

    Final Thoughts

Playing games can be an excellent way to hone key skills that will help you thrive in the workplace. It is important to ensure that you spend a healthy amount of time each week playing games and avoid letting them take up too much of your free time. When played in moderation, video games can help keep your skills sharp, all while helping you relax and unwind after a day of work.
