What Is The Effect Of CBD Gummies On The Brain?

The growing cannabis legalisation has translated into an increased awareness of the plant’s medicinal properties. More people are now talking about marijuana than before, an excellent development for a plant that was considered taboo in numerous countries until recently.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the two most popular cannabis extracts, the other one being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD is commonly prescribed for pain relief. The substance fights pain by affecting how endocannabinoid receptors transmit pain signals to the brain. Cannabidiol has also demonstrated potential for treating nausea, insomnia, inflammatory disorders, and a host of other medical conditions.

As with any cannabis product, CBD comes in various shapes and sizes. Common formulations include oral tinctures, topical products, and edibles like CBD gummies.

This post looks at the effects of CBD gummies on the brain.

What Are CBD Gummies And Why Should You Consume Them?

CBD gummies are cannabidiol-infused products that look and taste more like the traditional gummy bears you’re already familiar with. However, these products differ from regular gummies in that they also contain CBD.

CBD gummies have numerous therapeutic applications. And as you might have guessed, the health benefits of CBD gummies are mainly attributable to the cannabidiol in these products. Of course, you’ll need to invest in high-quality cannabidiol gummies to enjoy the products’ health benefits. The good news is that several retailers take pride in supplying premium-quality CBD gummies. You can try CBD gummies by Sunday Scaries or another highly-reputed supplier near you.

Besides their medicinal uses, cannabidiol gummies are also incredibly easy to dose. That’s because these products come with predetermined CBD potency. All you need to do is know your CBD tolerance to determine the number of gummies to consume.

CBD gummies are also perfect for cannabis users looking to remain discreet. As the products resemble any ordinary gummy bear, no one would tell outright that you’re consuming CBD unless.

Positive Effects of CBD Gummies on the Brain

    1. CBD Gummies May Treat Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are the most common mental conditions that medical marijuana doctors often prescribe cannabidiol for.

CBD gummies treat stress and anxiety by inhibiting the stress hormone cortisol while improving serotonin signaling.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter associated with ‘feel-good’ responses. Low levels of this hormone have been observed among people with anxiety and depression.

A 2015 review also established CBD’s positive interactions with various endocannabinoid receptors in the brain that regulate the feelings of fear and anxiety, such as CB1R.

Numerous subsequent studies have shown that CBD could help with all anxiety disorders. Examples include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and panic disorder (PD).

    1. CBD Gummies May Combat Seizures

Seizures mainly result from changes in the brain’s electrical activity. The condition can be caused by traumatic brain injury or underlying medical conditions, particularly those that affect the brain. Sleep deprivation, drug overdose, and electrical imbalances are other common causes of seizures.

Fortunately, this is another area where you could benefit tremendously by consuming cannabidiol gummies.

CBD gummies are remarkably sedating. Therefore, these products may help calm down overactive neurons.

In one animal study on cannabidiol’s anti-seizure properties, researchers found that CBD could treat seizures by mitigating neuronal excitability through positive interactions with GPR55 and TRPV1 receptors.

Thanks to cannabidiol’s anti-seizure properties, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a CBD-based drug called Epidiolex for treating two rare types of epilepsy – Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

    1. CBD Gummies May Alleviate Brain Inflammation

Cannabidiol is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. Therefore, CBD gummies might help treat various inflammatory brain disorders like encephalitis.

CBD mainly alleviates inflammation by suppressing the body’s activation of cytokines. Cytokines are proteins involved in the transmission of inflammatory messenger activity.

CBD gummies may also relieve brain inflammation induced by narrowed blood vessels. That’s due to cannabidiol’s powerful vasodilator properties.

Last but not least, CBD gummies contain neurodegenerative properties that make them potentially effective against inflammatory brain disorders resulting from age-induced degradation of brain neurons. Again, this ties back to the cannabidiol in these products. CBD’s neurodegenerative properties are why cannabidiol-based products are often prescribed for degenerative nerve diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s.

Negative Effects of CBD Gummies on the Brain

The negative effects of CBD gummies on the brain can be viewed in terms of whether cannabidiol can induce any mind-altering effects.

Fortunately, CBD is neither psychoactive nor intoxicating. Therefore, CBD gummies won’t get you high.

The main reason CBD gummies won’t get you high is that cannabidiol doesn’t interact with receptors in the brain directly. The compound mostly exerts its therapeutic benefits by affecting a group of receptors located further from the brain, called CB2 receptors.

However, CBD gummies won’t get you high isn’t a license to overdose on these products. Besides, some CBD gummies could still contain significant concentrations of THC, the main psychoactive compound in weed.

    Wrap Up

CBD gummies can produce both positive and negative effects on the brain. However, these products are most noted for their positive interactions with not only your brain but the entire body.

That said, it’s worth noting that overconsumption of CBD products could produce a host of adverse effects. Besides, cannabidiol is usually counterproductive if overdosed.

So, you’d do well to administer CBD gummies in moderation. Start with fewer gummies formulated with lower CBD potency, then build momentum slowly until you hit your sweet spot.
