The world was captivated in 2016 when a grandmother and a random person come together for the first time to celebrate Thanksgiving. The meeting stemmed from an accidental text from Wanda Dench, who thought she was texting her grandson. She texted Jamal Hinton (not her grandson), who asked if he could still have a plate after they realized the mix up. After saying yes, their friendship was secured and would be celebrated for many more Thanksgivings to come.

They’ve come together every year for a good Thanksgiving meal hosted by Dench. Netflix is developing a movie called “The Thanksgiving Text” based on this text adventure. It will tell the story of how they came together and have inspired many people to go outside their comfort zones and reach out to someone and take a chance.

Wanda’s husband passed away last year, but he’s still remembered in the celebration. Recently, the invitation has been extended to Jamal’s family and girlfriend. They celebrated again this year and photoshopped Dench’s husband in to make sure he was remembered.

“We are excited to share our story with the world. We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make,” Dench and Hinton said in a joint statement. “We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message.”

So far there is no word on a release dat. But if they start on it now expect it to be part of next years holiday line-up for the platform.
