Chris Pratt Hates Mondays, Loves Lasagna, and will Voice Garfield!

Not content to stick to voicing famous Italian plumbers, Chris Pratt has now been cast as the voice of Garfield the cat. We are not sure if we are more bewildered by this or the Mario casting.

We personally would have chosen someone a little more morose and believable as the infamous hater of Mondays (and lover of lasagna). One, Nick Offerman, would have made more sense to us. Yet here we are…

You cannot tell us that Nick Offerman wouldn’t have made a better Garfield. Pictured: Jim O’Heir and Nick Offerman

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pratt is joining this latest reboot of “Garfield,” which Alcon Entertainment is producing. Sony Pictures will serve as the distributor.

The script is not without animation pedigree. David Reynolds is attached to write. He penned the screenplays for “The Emperor’s New Groove,” “Atlantis: The Lost Empire,” and “Finding Nemo.” He received an Academy Award nomination for “Finding Nemo.” Mark Dindal is directing. Dindal and Reynolds worked together on “The Emperor’s New Groove.”

The last time we saw the orange feline on the big screen was in 2006 in “Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties.” The prickly pussycat was played by none other than Bill Murray.

    Pick of the Litter

Garfield has been a newspaper staple since 1978. It somehow is the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world. Thus showing that a hatred of the first day of the week must truly be universal.

Given the casting of Pratt, we are truly struggling imagine who will be set to play canine companion Odie. Or even stranger, who the hell will play Garfield’s much put upon owner Jon Arbuckle??

DNEG animation who most recently did “Ron’s Gone Wrong” will be animating and producing the film.

Pratt will next appear in “Jurassic World: Dominion” reprising his role as Owen Grady. No info yet on when we can expect to see Pratt’s take on “Garfield.”
