We are very sorry to report the passing of founding member of Slipknot and former drummer, Joey Jordison. His family has released an official statement to Billboard to confirm the sad news:
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th, 2021. Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music. The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time. The family will hold a private funeral service and asks the media and public to respect their wishes.”
Jordison separated from the band in 2013 for undisclosed reasons. The band announced he was no longer a part of it, and said that he was leaving for personal reasons. He later came out and said it was not his decision to leave the band, and had to do with a medical condition.
He was 46.
Guitarist John 5 commented on the loss:
Also Rob Zombie and Mike Portnoy.
