A sure sign that things are starting to reopen again is the famed Hollywood Bowl announcing their 2021-2022 concert season. Some of this year’s offerings are absolutely things we’d love to see, including “The Princess Bride,” “Black Panther,” and more!
“The Princess Bride” event on July 31st, 2021 really has our attention. The description reads:
Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles… Experience one of the most beloved films of all time as never before – with the power of the Los Angeles Philharmonic performing a brand new orchestral arrangement of composer Mark Knopfler’s score live-to-picture in a world premiere!
Three nights in September are dedicated to the great Maestro John Williams. Scheduled for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, Maestro of the Movies will be one of those events you’ve got to do at least once in your life.
There are two nights with Christina Aguilera in July, Ledisi‘s Nina Simone tribute, H.E.R. and the LA Phil, a “Sound of Music” singalong in August, and much much more.
In September, three nights are dedicated to “Black Panther” in concert.
When Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” was released in 2018, its vibrant depiction of Black excellence and its rich Afrofuturism created a cultural force, showing a new dimension of what superhero films could be. Rolling Stone raved, “The film lights up the screen with a full-throttle blast of action and fun. That’s to be expected. But what sneaks up and floors you is the film’s racial conscience and profound, astonishing beauty.” Now, for the first time anywhere, you can relive the excitement of T’Challa becoming king and battling Killmonger all while the LA Phil performs Ludwig Göransson’s Oscar-winning score live to picture.
