Alan Rickman Personal Diaries to be Published in 2022

The late great Alan Rickman left us a parting gift. He had started keeping a diary with the intent to eventually have them published back in the 90s, and now we will be getting an abridged version of them condensed into one book in 2022. They will be using entries from his 27 journals he had written in over the years.

The new book will be edited by Alan Taylor, editor of the Scottish Review of Books.

“I’m delighted that Canongate will be publishing Alan’s diaries, and couldn’t have wished for a finer appointment of editor than Alan Taylor,” Rima Horton, Rickman’s widow (who has been with him since 1965) said. “The diaries reveal not just Alan Rickman the actor, but the real Alan – his sense of humour, his sharp observation, his craftsmanship and his devotion to the arts.”

He started this personal project as his career was taking off with roles like Valmont in “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and on-screen as Hans Gruber in 1988’s “Die Hard.” Not to mention his role of Severus Snape in all of the “Harry Potter” films and Sir Alexander Dane in “Galaxy Quest.”

We will probably be treated to some personal insights as well as behind the scenes, and experiences he had while working on set of some of our favorite films.

He wrote right up until his death in 2016 when he passed of pancreatic cancer.
