Disney Cosplay has been recognizably popular with the constant releases of animation and live-action films. This cosplayer was someone I found in such a group and I’m happy to introduce him. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Bruno!
Please tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
My name is Bruno. I’m 27 and from Brazil. My first cosplay was only in 2017. It was Miguel, from Disney’s Coco. I’d say it was a pretty nice way to start, cause it’s safe and simple, you know? I went to an event in the city of Rio De Janeiro and decided to take part in the cosplay competition (yes, first cosplay, first event and already in a competition lol) and guess what? I won! It was really exciting. I performed a medley from Coco and everybody really loved it. Since then, I have tried to take part in all the competitions around me. Last year I was one of the finalists in Brazil Comic Con with a Mulan presentation as Li Shang and I got the best performance award! All the energy from the audience was unforgettable!
How would you define cosplay? What is your favorite part of it?
Well, every kid wants to be a hero, or a princess or even a warrior. I’d define cosplay as the art of making child dreams come true. I’m not saying it’s a childish thing. I’m saying that the child inside you needs to be kept alive. It’s like, “I’ve always wanted to be a Disney prince. Look at me now!” Thank God even crazy dreams come true and that’s definitely the best part of it.
How do you go about choosing characters?
I basically choose characters that I like. I need to be connected with the character on the inside in order to be connected on the outside.
How do you go about getting into character?
Well, I’m an actor, so I don’t think that part is too difficult. But I need to study the thoughts, the behavior, the looks and the clothes. Make-up helps a lot too.
Are you primarily a Disney Cosplayer?
I’d say yes to this! Although I cosplay some other characters on occasion, my favorite characters to portray are all Disney characters.
What has been one of the coolest things to come from cosplaying?
Definitely the recognition! I’m not talking about being famous, because, come on, I’m not even close to that. I’m talking about the recognition of good work: people see and really like what I do. This is what is priceless!
Outside of cosplay, what are some of your interests?
Well, As I said, I’m an actor and I’m studying to be a flight attendant. In Brazil we need to study for that. Oh! I’m also a pole dancer and I really love that. I also work as a costume designer.
Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Just that I’m really, really glad and happy to do this interview! It’s a pleasure! Also, for all new cosplayers out there, I say: ‘Go For It! Don’t feel insecure because you’re new and Never let people bring you down!’ Oh, and I need to thank some people that really helped me with this hobby. Thank you to my great friend Nubra, who has been there since the very first beginning and the boys who help me with everything I need – props, make-up and ideas – Ade and Rob. If I were King Arthur, these two would for sure be my knights!
If you want to find more of his cosplays and what he does definitely check out his Cosplay Instagram as well as his regular Instagram account.
