I've been critically reviewing fandoms and geek culture for eight years. After spending four years of college focusing on literary analysis, I now apply that passion to my hobbies and love for the geekdom.

The Batman is now in production, along with leaked set photos offering the first look at Colin Farrell as Penguin. We are getting an all new face in the DC Extended Universe (as it’s unofficially known), with Robert Pattinson taking over from Ben Affleck after his appearances in Batman V SupermanSuicide Squad, and Justice League. While Affleck was originally reserved to co-write, direct, and star in The Batman solo movie early on instead, the acclaimed Cloverfield and Planet of the Apes filmmaker Matt Reeves is now running the show.

Thanks to Twitter user Wade Gravett posting several photos from The Batman set to their account we get the very first glimpse of Farrell in the film. Some fans are also speculating that’s Pattinson as the mystery motorbike rider pictured here.

We see several Gotham police officers and a news van but most importantly these photos appear to show a silver-haired Farrell as the Penguin holding his preferred weapon of choice, an umbrella. His iconic top hat is missing so we assume they are going for a completely unconventional look for the familiar character.

Not surprising though as Reeves has indicated The Batman will be a noir crime drama that plays up Bruce Wayne’s skills as a detective. Therefore, it’s only fitting that Farrell’s Penguin be a little more inconspicuous. Making him more of a threat from the shadows rather than in-your-face.
