Today THR broke an exclusive that Taika Waititi is going to be returning to direct and write the follow up film to the 2017 Thor: Ragnarock.
This is a conflict for the Warner Bros. Film that he is currently been working on Akira. He was recently searching for actors for the film that would have had a May 21, 2021 release date. But with the acceptance of working on Thor 4 that now means that Akira will have to be pushed back to an indeterminate time. If they choose to keep Waititi on the project that is.
Thor: Ragnarock pulled in $854 Million worldwide and would no doubt break nearly $1 Billion with the next movie. Audiences are ready to see Chris Hemsworth in another movie as the God of Thunder especially since we just finished Phase 3 for the MCU.
