Universal recently partnered with Nintendo on some theme parks and attractions. The same Universal that makes movies. Nintendo has a long history of utilizing their properties outside of video games, including toys and clothing. But they’ve really only had one (awful) movie…
Until now.

Reports are that Universal’s animation studio, Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets), are partnering with Nintendo on an animated featuring starring everyone’s favorite plumber turned hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Nothing is known beyond a rumored plan to actually make a film based on a Nintendo property that wasn’t the awful 1993 Bob Hoskins/John Leguizamo Super Mario Bros. live-action mess. If they stay fully animated and follow the rough outline of a game, maybe they can have something brilliant! Without weird, realistic Yoshi.
